How to Share Your Location Safely

InfoHubs editorial • Updated 30 September 2026

A map link is a convenient way to show someone a meeting point. It can also reveal a home, workplace or other sensitive place. Before sharing, check both the pin and the recipient.

Create a location link

  1. Open Share my location and request your position.
  2. Check the coordinate result, accuracy estimate and map.
  3. Press Share location. If your browser supports sharing, select an app. Otherwise, copy the link.
  4. Check the conversation and recipient before sending.

A snapshot is not live tracking

Our link contains a coordinate pair captured when the location was requested. It does not follow you as you travel. If you move, request a new location and share a new link. Tell the recipient if the point is a meeting place rather than your current position.

Anyone with the link can use it

The generated map link is not password protected and does not expire. A recipient can forward it or take a screenshot. Deleting your message may not remove copies already saved elsewhere.

Choose an appropriate point

When you only need to arrange a meeting, consider using a public landmark instead of your home entrance. Use the coordinate lookup to check a chosen point on a map. Avoid posting your personal current location in a public group or social profile.

Understand the services involved

A map provider receives coordinates when you open a map. Your messaging app processes the message under its own policies. InfoHubs does not send a message automatically: you choose the recipient and complete the send action in your app.

For urgent situations

Do not rely on a website link as your only way to communicate an emergency location. Contact the relevant emergency service, give a readable description and follow their instructions.
